I love Sharon Kay Penman and really looked forward to reading Lionheart. Disappointed? Not really but it won’t be on best of Sharon Kay Penman list. It is the story of King Richard, the Lionheart, and his Crusade in the Holy Land. From his relationship with his mother, Eleanor of Aquitaine and his sister Joanna to his marriage to Berenguela to the Holy Land war (lots of battles) it kept my interest and I liked the characters but, and I can’t put my finger on why, I just didn’t get that “I can’t stop reading” feeling that I normally get with her stories.
